Laser lights

Cold air
Breath in the dark
We were halfway lost
On the edge of the car park
Phone low
Signal is gone
But the glow on the hill
Keeps dragging us on

Every wrong turn
Feels like a test
Every short breath
Caught in my chest
You look back
Say "trust your sight"
Then point at the sky
And it cuts through the night

Laser lights indicate the right direction
Cutting through the black
Through my reflection
Every color screaming out "stay alive"
Laser lights pulling me to your side
Laser lights indicate the right direction
I was spinning out
You were my correction
In the middle of this endless night
Laser lights
Laser lights

Wet streets
Echo our shoes
We were both burned out
Both sick of bad news
But that beam
Across all this mess
Like a straight-line hope
Through my heavy chest

Every doubt fades
Under that beam
Every lost map
Feels like a dream
You grab my hand
Say "just hold tight"
We follow that stripe
Through the ink of the night

If it all goes black again
Will we still remember when
You and I
Heads up
Eyes wide
Found a path in a painted sky

If the stars all fade from view
I will still walk straight to you
Any color
Any height
I’ll be chasing down those
